Annoying

Came home from work today and I feel annoyed. Why? Today is the last day of school for the boys. For reasons I don't understand.

We live in a society today where the children are NOT expected to or needed to came to work on their parents farms but teachers unions have made it clear that nobody touches their precious summer vacation.
Am I only looking for 'free' childcare? No, I am not. We have worked it out so that Rich works mornings and I work evenings so that one of us is home with the kids. But the fact is: The knowledge that the kids now have gotten during the school year will be lost and forgotten by the time mid August rolls around. And then the teachers has to start the new school year by repeating what they supposedly learned last year.

What a waste of time and effort for both kids and teachers. For what? So the teachers can have the summer off while complaining over the 'evil' parents who wants year round school.

No teacher that gives voice to that sentiment will ever get my respect!

That was/is one of the main reasons why we so wanted the boys transferred to Atlas. Atlas Prep starts year round school this coming school year. yes, I do believe that the boys (both of them) would do good in fifth grade, but I also understand that it is a big thing to skip a grade. Things are learned in fourth grade that are needed for fifth. I get that.

I am less worried about the social part. The boys are born in Dec. Cut off in Co is Oct. 1st. As it is now, they are two months younger than the youngest of next years fifth graders. I doubt those two months make that much difference. But having missed out on fourth grade might..

It is a difficult decision for us. As we are dealing with two very smart boys.

So at this time, I now have two boys with not much structure for the next two and a half months. Good thing we have Young Marines!!

Really, teachers have more than three months of the year off and complain when asked to work more, saying parents only want 'free' childcare.. And people defend those teachers and think they have the 'right' to not work but still get paid. Shame on you who support this system!! You are doing the teachers, the school AND the students a huge disfavor.

I get it though, try to tell a swede to cut out his/her 5+ weeks vacation.. You'll get the same answer.. Working unions.. There is a reason why the Swedish word for them sounds so much like a very bad word in English. I have no sympathy for unions and those that hide behind them!
