So where to start. it could be a long post this time:-D
First the pictures. This is my first time to have a "real" garden, so this is what it looks like right now. Seeded here are, parsley, dill, chives, beets, lettuce and spinach.
I am very excited!
The tree Tomato plants that survived my cat...:-( but hopefully we will get some tomatoes!!
Sophia, standing where I just planted some 'lilies of the valley' (liljekonvaljer).
Jacob and Jonathan.
Who is who?
So.. Speaking of those two boys.
We recently received letters from the school district about Jonathan, and it stated that Jonathan has been 'identified' as a "Gifted and Talented" child. Basically, that means that he has scored high on IQ tests. That's right.
To be 'identified' one would need to score higher than 92% of same age group kids in a 'title one school. (ours is..) Jonathan has scored up to 99%ile.
So these are the tests he was given, and the results.
COGAT Non-Verbal 88%ile Quantitative 88%ile Verbal 83%ile
K-BIT Non-Verbal 98%ile Verbal 91%ile
Naglieri Non-Verbal 99%ile
TOMAGS Quantitative 92%ile.
So he was 'identified' as Non-Verbal, meaning: refers to reasoning using geometric shapes and figures. To perform successfully, students must invent strategies for solving novel problems. They must be flexible in using these strategies an accurate in implementing them.
We were also invited to a meeting for parents of newly 'identified' children. So I went Thursday. Got some good and interesting information. The day after the meeting came another letter. About Jacob.
Yes, he was also tested. And has also been 'identified'. As gifted Quantitative.
His results are:
COGAT Non-Verbal 81%ile Quantitative 97%ile Verbal 83%ile
TOMAGS Quantitative 65%ile.
So Jacob was not tested on all the tests. And also had very different scores. But then again, they are two different people despite how similar they look!
For the quantitative child, this is what he is very good at:
this refers to quantitative reasoning skills; flexibility and fluency in working with quantitative symbols and concepts; and the ability to organize, structure, and give meaning to an unordered set of numerals and mathematical symbols. These reasoning skills are significantly related to problems solving in mathematics and other disciplines.
So what does this all mean? For now, they will mostly get pulled out of their own class for extra tutoring in the subjects where they are ahead of the rest of the class. Reading and math at this point.
They may also be able to go up a grade level for a specific subject, say math, just for that time that math is being taught, and then return to their own classroom again.
Third grade and up will bring more fun opportunities for them!
So. What do ya think of my boys? I am very proud of them!
