It has been a long time since I posted last. It is not that I don't want anyone to know what we are doing, but we aren't doing a whole lot..
Work is good, we have been fairly busy lately. I still have foot pains but have found a treatment that helps some. It is called Ice Dipping. Basically, I take a bucket, fill it with about 10 inches of water and then dump ice into it. Into this icy cold water I dip my foot for about 10 seconds, 10 times within a two-hour period every day. It is very unpleasant, to not say horribly painful, but I do think it helps some. This whole week I only took the meloxicam I was given, nothing else to help it along. Although, by Friday I was limping again.
Last weekend we had Richards sister Lory come for a short visit. She flew in on Thursday and left last Monday. It was a nice visit and we managed to take new family pictures while she was here. Those of my readers that are closer family might get a copy in the mail around Christmas...;-) until then, I am not showing any copies! Ha!
No, really, I don't have any copies to show.. And no scanner either.. So live with it!!
We also had a visit with Dr. Nyack for Sophia. As far as her thyroid goes, it seems to be good. He ordered blood work and 'No news is good news' so I think all is good with that. However.. We do have another issue to deal with, and that is her hair loss. he thinks it might be Alopecia areata, but he is not an expert on that. After having looked at the issue a little, granted I know NOTHING! I am wondering though.. It seems that alopecia is what Richards mom and sister has? so it could be, but according to what I read the scalp should be completely bald if it is.
In Sophia's case it isn't, it is more fuzzy and the hair seems broken off, not fallen out of hair follicles.
And also, the itching.. And the scabbing..
It could be: Discoid lupus erythematosus ? That could explain the itching and scabbing and also the hair loss.
It also seems that hair loss is not an uncommon complication of SLE, the lupus that Sophia has. So it could be that it is 'just' the lupus, that the hair will grow back and it will never happen again..
So again, we are waiting for a doctor that might know. In either case, it seems that maybe biopsy might be part of the diagnosis procedure...
For now, we are able to hide the big bald spot on top of her head by using a barrette, but the one in the front is then very visible.. Unfortunately..
Well, there you have it.. Hope your day is good!
