Ok, I am still upset about the visit to Dr Hollister. I called to make this appointment when my mom was here, so two months ago. It was the soonest we could get in and it was up in Denver. It was mainly to try to figure out why Sophias hair is falling out. So the day finally came. To go to Denver takes me have time off from work.
This day I decided to take off all together. I could have worked some in the morning, but it is easier for work to fill it up if I let someone take my whole shift instead of me trying to leave early so it was a decision I had to make. Plus I got to sleep in a little...
Anyhow.. I got Sophia from School at 10:45ish and we were on our way. The ride up was smooth and nothing really going on. Got there in plenty of time, the nurse got the vitals and had us in a room. After a few minutes this TALL man walks into the room. He says he is a third year med student, working with Dr Hollister, could he examine Sophia. I say sure.. I really just want to see a doctor, I am kind of wondering where Dr Hollister is. Apparently he is to show up at a later stage?
This med student does the examination, asks questions about her current medications, when the hair started falling out etc. So far so good.. But then he says he doesn't know what it is, he is no doctor.. So he goes to get the Doctor..
Dr Hollister finally comes, with a woman in tow. He introduces this woman as someone in charge of a national research registry for Children with rheumatic diseases and lupus. Would we consent to participate? At this point I am a little frustrated at the lack of interaction with an actual doctor. I just want a few minutes with the doctor! I consent to talking to this woman after our appointment. The woman then leaves. And Dr Hollister glances at Sophia's head. Tells us we need to be seen by a dermatologist-he is not an expert on these types of problems. And then he again wants to take us to this woman. Like the appointment is over now.. But hello!!?? I try to stall, so he says- a little impatiently.. All the dermatologists that he knows are up in Denver, would he like me to find one for me there? No, I want one down in the Springs.. So he tells me he will call Sophias pediatrician to get an referral.. Then he leaves the room.. I walk after him, trying to catch up. Finally we end up outside this womans office where he askes us to make another appointment in four months.. I ask if he even thinks this is lupus related? Yes, he does think that. Then he walks off.. That was all...
145 miles of driving. The day off from work, gas money, 25 dollar co-pay and we now know.. It may be lupus related.. Wow.. So worth it.. *NOT*. Appointment with a Doctor Babcock (Dermatologist) on Dec. 17 at 8:10am. Hopefully we will finally get some answers!!!
